Hello Camp Wood Families,

As a kid I always wanted to find my home away from home. In the summer of 2016, I was able to find that when I began working at Camp Wood YMCA. I can remember how nervous I was to meet all the staff because I had never been to a camp before and my “outdoorsiness’ was hidden deep down inside of me. However, deciding to work at camp that summer was probably one of the best decisions I have ever made. Words could not express how amazing my time at Camp Wood has been. I have been able to conquer many fears and create friendships that will last a lifetime. I have also made some amazing memories like when I became the coach of Synchronized Swimming club or taught Na-sha (Nature) club with Gizmo. A staff-wide favorite memory, that will likely live on even after I’m gone, was when I took a group on a very long hike to Peace Tree and beyond. If you’re wanting to know that story just ask Ryne or BJ and I’m sure they’d be happy to explain. Coming back each year brought me so much joy and when I began working at camp full time, I got a deeper understanding of the importance of camp – no matter your age. I truly believe that camp has a magical power that makes you forget all your troubles from the outside world and brings you peace and happiness when you are here. From a Cabin Counselor to the Summer Camp Program Director, I will cherish all of the memories I’ve made at camp forever. I will miss everyone that I have met while working here. You all have made such an impact on my life.

In the Spirit of Camp,

Taylor Twombly “Ruby”
