Camp Life
A day AT CAMP WOODWhere will my child stay? When are meal times? What activities are there during the day? Is there ANY time for rest?! These are just a few of the questions we get on a daily basis so we thought we’d dedicate a whole page to it! Check out our daily schedule for a day in the life of a Camp Wood camper. We also feature some of our countless activities and a video of our facilities. Be careful though – pretty soon you’ll be wanting to come to camp too!
Daily Schedule
They Won’t Even Miss Their Screen Time
Morning
7:00 a.m. – Wake Up
Campers have an early start at Camp Wood YMCA! There’s way too much fun to fit in to be sleeping late. Each cabin will have time to visit the restroom and get ready for the day!
7:30 a.m. – Flagpole
Gather round, gather round! All cabins will gather at the flagpole at 7:30am as we respectfully stand and watch it rise together. Your child’s cabin group may even be the ones raising the flag this morning!
7:40 a.m. – Morning Movations
From the flagpole, everyone makes their way to the Chapel where we will take time to do Morning Motivations – oftentimes a story, song, or lesson. This helps us all start the day on the right foot and teaches us different character traits as well!
8:00 a.m. – Breakfast
Campers will be welcomed by the smell of cinnamon rolls as they walk into the Dining Hall. There they will go through the line and have their choice of fruit, eggs, cinnamon rolls, cereal, milk, and OJ to wash it all down.
9:00 a.m. – 9:45 – Club 1 or Specialty Camp
Once everyone is fueled, we’ll move on to our first Club of the day! Campers will get to choose their own adventure with activities such as biking, archery, painting, or fishing. Horse campers will head up to the barn and be there for the entire morning!
10:00 a.m. – 10:45 – Club 2 or Specialty Camp
Off to Club number 2! Campers will now have the chance to choose from three different activities. Maybe their club of choice this time is construction where they get to build their own race car.
11:00 a.m. – 11:45 – Club 3 or Specialty Camp
Time for the final club before lunch! The possibilities seem endless. Maybe your son or daughter chooses soccer as their last club. Today they might be perfecting their passing skills and getting ready for the epic championship game at the end of the week.
Afternoon
12:00 p.m. – Lunch
How is it already lunch time?! The day has flown by! For lunch campers usually enjoy meals such as sloppy joes, chicken nuggets, or tacos. There is always a salad bar and fruit option as well.
1:00 p.m. – Service Projects
We believe in growing character at Camp Wood and one way we do that is through service projects. Each cabin will choose their service project for the day. Maybe it’s cleaning the dining hall, picking up trash around camp, or even writing Thank You notes to the kitchen staff.
1:15 p.m. – Rest Hour
Time to cool our heels for a bit! Campers have some time to nap, play games, or read in the nice AC of their cabin.
2:15 p.m. – Cabin Activity 1
Each day cabins will schedule which activities they want to take part in for the day. These activities are often different from clubs and will be done as a full cabin group. Campers will be able to participate in swimming, boating, zipline, arts & crafts, high ropes, and so much more!
3:20 p.m. – Cabin Activity 2
Time to head to Cabin Activity 2! Maybe your child’s cabin group is headed to the waterfront to swim! While down there, they may be visited by our popsicle mobile delivering them a frozen treat.
4:30 p.m. – Cabin Activity 3
It’s Arts & Crafts time! Today campers get to make their own tie dye tshirt to take home. Colors of blue, yellow, orange, green, and purple are splattered all over the place!
5:30 p.m – Quad Time
During Quad Time, all campers come together and get to take part in activities of their choosing. Gaga ball is by far the most popular but we also have 9-square, giant Connect Four, sports balls, spikeball, and other lawn games.
Evening
6:00 p.m. – Flagpole
As the day winds down, we take time to lower the flag. Campers are quiet and calm as we reminisce on all the fun of the day.
6:15 p.m. – Dinner
Dinner is a TREAT tonight. It’s spaghetti but wait a minute… there are no forks to eat it with! Oh well, guess we’re using our hands. Campers get their fill and finish off their meal with a brownie.
7:30 p.m – Evening Program
As the sun starts to set, the fun ramps up. Tonight’s evening program can get a bit messy as campers have to paint their leader as a Disney character! Activities for the rest of the week may include a scavenger hunt or carnival.
9:00 p.m – Showers and Embers
After a full day, it’s now time for campers to shower off and settle down. Embers is a chance for cabins to get to know each other more deeply. Thought provoking questions will be asked to draw together cabin groups.
9:30/10 p.m. – Lights Out
With campers tucked into their bunks their eyes can hardly stay open as the lights go out. With happy hearts, all are looking forward to another day at Camp Wood.
